MI vs RR: Sachin Tendulkar erupts in joy during Tim David’s carnage
Mumbai Indians’ historic clash against Rajasthan Royals at the iconic Wankhede lived up to the billing as the 1000th IPL match produced a scintillating contest between bat and ball. Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was seen enjoying the culmination of the match as Tim David smoked Jason Holder for three consecutive maximums in the final over.
A full house crowd at the Wankhede were treated to some spectacular power-hitting by the Mumbai Indians, who completed a record chase at the iconic venue. The match was seemingly getting away from the home side after the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav before Tim David displayed why he is highly rated as a finisher in T20 cricket.
The five-time champions required 17 runs off the final over, with the towering Aussie on strike. He smashed a brilliant six down the ground of the very first delivery of the over to bring down the equation in his side’s favour. The second ball of the over by Jason Holder was also dispatched to the boundary for a six in the mid-wicket region, leaving an onlooking Sachin Tendulkar with a big smile on his face.
The Mumbai batter wasn’t quite done there as he smoked a third consecutive six in the final over to make a mockery of the chase. Meanwhile, the legendary Indian cricketer, who was Mumbai’s first-ever skipper in the IPL, is a mentor for the side in the 16th edition of the tournament.
It was a perfect gift for skipper Rohit Sharma, who celebrated his 36th birthday on the day as his side moved to the seventh place in the IPL 2023 points table with eight points to their name in eight matches.
