MI vs GT Review – Suryakumar’s ton puts a total eclipse on Rashid’s carnage
Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Titans by 27 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 12. Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant century propelled the five-time champions to notch up 218 runs on the board. During the run chase, Gujarat faced a batting collapse. But, Rashid Khan’s belief-defying striking helped them reduce the margin of MI’s victory considerably.
Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians got off to a good start to the game. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided the side with just the start that they needed. Rohit scored 29 runs in 18 balls, whereas Kishan amassed 31 runs in 20 balls. Furthermore, star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav scored a brilliant ton, amassing 103* runs in 49 deliveries.
Rashid Khan was sensational with the ball in the first innings, taking four wickets and conceding 30 runs in four overs while Mohit Sharma took 1/43 runs in four overs. Coming in to chase the target, Gujarat got off to the worst of starts as Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha only managed to score eight runs collectively. Furthermore, things went from bad to worse when skipper Hardik Pandya was sent packing for just four runs.
Vijay Shankar and David Miller did score 29 and 4, respectively. However, it was the brilliant unbeaten 79 off 32 of Rashid that kept the hopes of the defending champions alive. Impact player Akash Madhwal was fabulous night with the ball during the run chase. He took three wickets and conceding 31 runs in three overs. Furthermore, Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya took two wickets each, with Jason Behrendorff striking once.

Suryakumar Yadav: Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was sensational for Mumbai Indians and was undoubtedly the star of the game. The 32-year-old scored an unbeaten knock of 103 runs in 49 balls. His performance was crucial for the five-time champions in notching up 218.
Rashid Khan: Ace Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan was arguably the best performer for Gujarat in their clash against Mumbai. In four overs in the first innings, Rashid took four wickets and conceded 30 runs. Furthermore, he also played an explosive knock during the run chase. He scored 79* runs in 32 balls and brought his side close to a win.
