MI Head Coach Mark Boucher outlines IPL 2023 game plan
Newly appointed Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher is quite clear about where he wants to take the team. Boucher stepped down from his role with the South Africa side and joined the Mumbai Indians coaching setup recently. The former South African wicketkeeper-batter’s first task will be to execute his strategies in the auction, which is just two weeks away.
Mumbai Indians have endured a tough period in the last two seasons where they failed outside the race of the playoffs. Further, the five-time champions decided to release Hardik Pandya ahead of the mega auction last year and the decision did not work out well.
You can get knocked down but you’ve got to get up again: Mark Boucher
Boucher noted that it is common to go through a phase without winning much games but emphasised on the importance of taking lessons. He further reckoned that it is important to get back to the best phase again and not drown in pressure.
“We’ve spoken about it. Sometimes it’s not a bad thing to go through a bit of time where you maybe don’t win a lot. I think the lessons that we’ve learned are important. We’ve sat down, we’ve spoken about the lessons there, and I think that’s the most important thing. You can get knocked down but you’ve got to get up again and for me, this year is about the getting-up stage and there won’t be any complacency,” Boucher was quoted as saying by News 18.
Boucher also spoke about the huge fan base of Mumbai Indians and elaborated upon the advantage of returning to home and away format.
“The fan base of Mumbai Indians is very important. If we get our fans behind us, it is going to be a plus playing against any team here at our hometown city. We are really looking forward to seeing some good support,” he added.
