MCC honors Sachin Tendulkar with Melbourne Cricket Club membership

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has been honored with an honorary membership by the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), acknowledging his outstanding contributions to the sport. The MCC, established in 1838 and responsible for managing the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), announced this accolade on December 27, 2024.

Tendulkar’s performances at the MCG have been remarkable. In five Test matches at the venue, he amassed 449 runs at an average of 44.90, including one century and three fifties, making him India’s leading run-scorer in Tests at this ground. Additionally, in seven One Day Internationals (ODIs) at the MCG, he scored 190 runs.

This honor adds to Tendulkar’s list of international recognitions. In 2012, he was awarded the Order of Australia, one of the country’s highest civilian honors, becoming the first non-Australian cricketer to receive this distinction.

The announcement coincides with the ongoing fourth Test match between India and Australia at the MCG, with the series currently tied at 1-1. Tendulkar’s honorary membership not only celebrates his achievements but also underscores the deep cricketing ties between India and Australia.
