MCA to felicitate Rohit Sharma for becoming India’s all-format captain

Rohit

As per the latest developments, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is set to felicitate Rohit Sharma for becoming India’s captain across all three formats of the game. While the 34-year-old got the reins of white-ball teams last year, he was recently named the skipper of the Test team. The upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home will mark Rohit’s maiden captaincy assignment in Test cricket.

With the veteran opener taking giant strides, MCA decided to honour him. The decision was made during the MCA Apex Council meeting held on Thursday (February 24). Meanwhile, several other players, hailing from Mumbai, will also be felicitated. Among those is U19 star Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who was instrumental in India’s triumph at the Under-19 World Cup 2022. With 278 runs in six matches, he finished as India’s highest run-scorer.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi will receive a cash price of INR one lakh

“In today’s Apex Council Meeting decision passed Rohit Sharma will be felicitated for becoming captain of all three formats. Angkrish Raghuvanshi will be felicitated by MCA with a cash prize of Rs one lakh and momento,” a MCA Apex Council was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, the function will take place next month, ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Besides Rohit and Raghuvanshi, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, all-rounder Shardul Thakur, opener Prithvi Shaw and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will also be honoured. Young batter Sarfaraz Khan, who has been doing well in domestic cricket lately, will also be felicitated.

Meanwhile, Team India has been on a roll in white-ball cricket lately. After thrashing West Indies in the ODI and T20I series, the Men in Blue comprehensively defeated Sri Lanka in the first of the three T20Is on Thursday (February 24). Notably, the T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place later this year in Australia and India’s preparations look on song. Notably, the Men in Blue suffered a horrendous campaign in last year’s T20 World Cup 2021, where they couldn’t even clear the league stage.
