Marizanne Kapp opens up on facing her partner Dane van Niekerk in WBBL 2021 final
The 2021 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) final will be played between the Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers. And, same-sex couples Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk will be on opposite sides when the two teams meet in the summit clash.
While Kapp offers her services for the Perth Scorchers side, Niekerk will be playing for the Adelaide Strikers. And now, Kapp has said that she has already dismissed her partner twice in the 2021 edition of the WBBL, and the third time might be Niekerk’s chance to get back at her.
Kapp however said that all this is a part and parcel of the sport and added that it is not easy to play against Niekerk since she knows her well and knows what she would be thinking.
“I’m a bit nervous that I got her out twice this season and I’m nervous that the third time might be her day. If we bowl first, it’s literally me up against her immediately. But look, it’s part of the game and we’re used to it. I always tell everyone that it’s never easy playing against Dane because she knows me so well and she knows what I’m thinking and what I’m trying to do,” said Kapp to cricket.com.au.
Every now and then she is upset with me: Marizanne Kapp
Marizanne Kapp also said that her partner Dane van Niekerk is upset with her pretty often as she gets annihilated on social media every time she is dismissed by Kapp.
“Every now and then she’s a bit upset with me, because she’s said previously that people absolutely annihilate her on social media every time I get her out, so she’s not looking forward to that,” added Kapp.
Dane van Niekerk said that she has known Kapp for more than a decade now, but still cannot figure out what she is going to bowl. Niekerk concluded by stating that she will try not to get out to her partner.
“I know what she bowls, I’ve known this for 12 years, but for some reason I don’t know what she bowls. I’m going to try and not get out to her, that’s the plan,” said Niekerk to Channel Seven.
