Litton Das named Bangladesh captain for ODI series against India
Bangladesh have appointed wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das the skipper of the team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. The decision was taken after it was confirmed that Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the exciting contest with a groin injury. Das has led Bangladesh only one before in a T20I game against New Zealand when Mahmadullah got injured.
However, he has been a part of the leadership group for quiet sometime now and was also appointed vice-captain of the Test when Shakib Al Hasan took over the duties. BCB Cricket Operation Chairman Jalal Yunus lauded Litton Das for his skills and also expressed his diappointment over Tamim Iqbal getting ruled out of the action.
“Litton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well. It is most unfortunate to lose Tamim to injury for this very important series, especially because under his captaincy the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format. He will be missed but we also feel that Liton has the attributes to do a good job as captain,” he said according to a cricket news website. If the reports are to be believed, Shakib Al Hasan was the frontrunner to become the skipper but when the cricketer refused to take up the role, the board had to opt for Litton Das.
Bangladesh are facing injury issues ahead of this series with their ace pacer Taskin Ahmed also ruled out of the series opener.
First ODI set to be played on Sunday
Meanwhile, the first of the three-match ODI series is set to be played on Sunday (December 4). The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are set to return to action after resting for the tour of New Zealand that took place soon after the T20 World Cup in Australia.
