Latest WTC standings after Australia’s Boxing Day win vs India
India was beaten by Australia in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on December 30. The hosts have taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series, with the final Test scheduled for January 3 in Sydney.
The loss has severely dented India’s hope of making it to the World Test Championship 2025 final as they depend on the results of other teams. They now are in dire need of winning the Sydney game to keep their WTC hopes alive and not lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in almost 10 years in Australia.
India is ranked third in the points table with a percentage of 52.77, behind Australia, which holds the second spot with a points percentage of 61.45. On the other hand, South Africa, on the back of impeccable outings against Sri Lanka and in the first Test against Pakistan, has become the first team to qualify for the WTC finals in the ongoing cycle.
Speaking of Sri Lanka, they have a slim chance of making it to the WTC finals if the Sydney Test ends in a draw and they win 2-0 against a touring Australian side in the coming months. Currently, they have a points percentage of 45.45 and are in fifth spot.
