Last hat-tricks in all three formats of international cricket
Picking up three wickets in three consecutive deliveries is one of the toughest accomplishments for a bowler. Some bowlers have managed to do it on more than one occasion and luck can be a factor involved while picking up hattricks. The hattricks still prove to be a talking point in any format of the game and the value of hattricks can never be underestimated. On that note, let us look into the last few hattricks in the three formats.
Tests – Keshav Maharaj
The last Test hat trick came a year ago when South Africa toured West Indies for a two-match series. Keshav Maharaj picked the wickets of Kieran Powell, Jason Holder and Joshua Da Silva in the 37th over of the final innings when West Indies were chasing a target of 324 as South Africa ended up winning the Test by a big margin while Maharaj finished with 5 for 36 in his spell.
ODIs – Kuldeep Yadav
The last ODI hattrick came in 2019 when Kuldeep Yadav ran through the West Indies batting order in Vizag. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul scored massive centuries and India posted a huge total of 387 in their 50 overs. Chasing the daunting total, the visitors kept losing wickets in continuous intervals and Kuldeep took advantage by picking up a hattrick in the 33rd over. The spinner got rid of Shai Hope, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph in consecutive deliveries to complete his second hattrick in ODIs.
T20Is – Shahrukh Quddus
Shahrukh Quddus is the latest to take a hat trick in T20Is and he achieved the feat for Kuwait against Bahrain in the Oman Cricket Ground in Muscat this year. Chasing 187 to win, the Kuwait opener Umer Imtiaz was removed by Quddus and the right-arm medium pacer did not stop there as he removed Shahbaz Badar and Haider Butt in the very next deliveries to complete a stunning hattrick.
