Lanka Premier League 2020: Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir tests COVID 19 positive

Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir, who is a squad member of the Kandy Tuskers franchise, has now become the second one to be tested positive for COVID-19 after reaching Sri Lanka for LPL. Canada batsman Ravinderpal Singh who was snapped by Colombo Kings, tested positive for the novel virus earlier today. Both the players have been isolated at a separate hotel from the rest of the team and are under observation.

The detailed summary of Tanvir’s health has been conveyed to the Tuskers’ head coach Hashan Tilakaratne right after it arrived. The team is looking for a replacement immediately, and the talks with franchise owners are on.

“We will have to talk to the franchise owners and find somebody to replace Tanvir,” said Tilakaratne as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The pacer is not believed to have been in close contact with the rest of the team, and the remainder of the Tuskers will go on with their planning as per the schedule. Tanvir was himself a replacement player for the Tuskers for Wahab Riaz and Liam Plunkett as their overseas stars. Both of them pulled out of the tournament earlier only. When batsman Singh was diagnosed with the COVID-19, players were under scrutiny who travelled in the same bus or flight.

Andre Russell and others were with him in the same, but luckily, they have not been impacted by his health conditions as per the LPLorganizers.

“[Singh] has been sent for treatment at another hotel in the area, which has been set up like a hospital. He is not at the same hotel as the others, and they are all in their bubble. The others will be training and preparing for the tournament as usual,” said Anil Mohan, CEO of the IPG Group company, which is organizing the Lanka Premier League.

The involvement of both the player in the league is not subjected to their health conditions and statements from medical authorities. However, both of them will at least sit out for two weeks. The ongoing situations are only adding to the challenges of LPL which was already dealing with many difficulties in line with its commencement.
