Kohli, Bumrah may be rested for limited-overs series against West Indies
Captain Virat Kohli and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah are two players who have had to shoulder a heavy workload over the past few months. After a hectic schedule in the IPL, the pair are now in the thick of the action as India’s key performers during the World Cup. There will be no respite in the schedule as India are set to embark on a full-fledged tour of the Caribbean from August 3. The tour will consist of 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches.
According to reports in the PTI, in order to manage the workload of India’s star performers, the selectors might opt to rest Kohli and Bumrah for the limited-overs leg of the tour. The two players would then join up with the team for the crucial Test series, which will India’s inaugural matches of the ICC Test Championship.
A BCCI source told PTI, “Virat and Jasprit will certainly be rested for the three-match T20Is and three-match ODI series. Virat has been playing since the start of Australia series and Bumrah’s workload management is also paramount. They will join the team before the Test series. With the first Test in Antigua starting August 22, there would be enough time for the key members in the World Cup squad to get much-needed rest.”
This will certainly be a wise move from the BCCI as the fitness of Bumrah and Kohli is of paramount importance with the tough schedule ahead. The two players will undoubtedly be key to India’s hopes of performing well in the future. It will also be interesting to see who gets the nod in terms of selection to replace these two players.
