The Rise

Before representing India in cricket, Chahal had already played for the nation in a different sport. He represented India in the World Youth Chess Championship. However, moving away from the 64 squares, he soon embraced the 22 yards and featured in Haryana’s age-group teams. He captained Haryana in a few games at the U-17 and U-19 level before making his Ranji Trophy debut in 2009.

IPL exploits

Chahal first tasted national prominence for his stints with Mumbai Indians in the IPL and in the T20 Champions League. In 2014, Royal Challengers Bangalore snapped him up and they have been together since. The leg-spinner soon paved his way into the national team and made a name for himself with his white-ball exploits. Despite having the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore as a home ground which is known for its short boundaries, Chahal has managed to shine with his bowling consistency.
