Know all about Gurinder Sandhu: Indian-origin bowler who took a BBL hat-trick
Over the years, there have been several talented players who have managed to set the Big Bash League on fire. However, one of those players happens to be a pacer of Indian origin and his name is Gurinder Sandhu. While he recently took a hat-trick in a game against the Perth Scorchers, what is this speedster’s origin story?
For starters, Sandhu’s parents were born in North-West Punjab, however, he was born in New South Wales. Before starting his career as a cricketer, there was a time when he used to deliver Pizza as a teenager. As a kid, he was always among the tougher ones and as a matter of fact, he used to rub shoulders with kids twice his age during his childhood days.

Besides, alongside cricket, Sandhu also loves Rugby and thus, it explained his toughness. When he got a chance to showcase his talent to the world, he didn’t disappoint, as he went on to pick 10 wickets in s games for Australia in the Under-19 World Cup in 2012. He then made his debut in the Australian T20 league for Sydney Thunder and plays for them up to this very date.
In fact, in just his debut BBL season, the 28-year-old picked 10 wickets and finished as the leading wicket-taker for his franchise. His consistent performances in the domestic circuit then ensured that he won the NSW player of the year award for the 2012-13 season. Consistent performances helped him make his ODI debut in 2015.
While he became the first player of Indian origin to play for the Aussies in one-dayers, his international debut coincidentally came against India. Post which, he only played another ODI. However, his performances in the ongoing BBL 2021-22, which includes the hat-rick, proves that the speedster still has a lot in him. Thus, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Sydney Thunder pacer does end up playing international cricket again.
