KL Rahul can definitely get a chance in the Tests against England: Aakash Chopra
The Indian side will lock horns against England in an eagerly anticipated five-match Test series. This blockbuster series will begin on 4th August 2021. And, ahead of this marquee series between Virat Kohli’s men and Joe Root’s men, Aakash Chopra reckons that the batting department is the area of concern for India.
Chopra further elaborated that Abhimanyu Easwaran is not in good form with the willow and the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal has not proven themselves in away conditions.
The former Indian cricketer even added that Hanuma Vihari’s consistency is also under doubt. The 43-year-old also feels that KL Rahul has the chance of getting a look in as well.
“Team India have weaknesses in the batting. Abhimanyu Easwaran apparently doesn’t seem in good form. The opening pair of Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma are yet to prove themselves in overseas conditions. One is not sure about Hanuma Vihari’s consistency with the bat. So looking at all the factors, KL Rahul can definitely get a look-in. I think he can play as an opener also but as of now it seems he will bat in the middle-order if he plays,” said Chopra as quoted by The Hindustan Times.
Aakash Chopra elaborates on KL Rahul’s chances for Tests against England
Aakash Chopra threw more light on KL Rahul’s chances of making it to the Indian playing XI. Stating that Rahul has the experience of playing in England conditions, Chopra added that Rahul has already scored a century in England and also scored a ton in the warm-up fixture as well.
Chopra concluded by stating that there is also an opening in the Indian middle order as well, and that is the reason why the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav have been called up.
“KL Rahul has the experience of playing in English conditions. He has scored a Test hundred in England and got one in the warm-up match as well. He is now playing as a middle-order batsman. He can definitely get a chance. There is an opening in the middle-order, which is why Shaw and Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) have been added to the squad,” concluded Chopra.
