Karun Nair to join Northamptonshire for three County Championship matches
Indian batter Karun Nair was recently announced as Northamptonshire County Cricket Club’s latest signing. The 31-year-old replaced Sam Whiteman in the squad, who will be returning to Australia. It is worth noting that Nair will be representing Northamptonshire for the remaining three games of the tournament.
The 31-year-old arrived in the UK on Friday, September 8, and will be playing for the side in their clash against Warwickshire on Sunday, September 10. Despite having a brilliant start to his international career back in 2016, scoring a triple-century for India, Karun Nair has failed to cement his place in the Indian squad.
However, his prowess in first-class cricket is something that no one can undermine. With 5922 runs in 85 first-class matches, Karun Nair has been a force to be reckoned with over the years, and he will look to put in similar performances for Northamptonshire as well. With the announcement of his move to the county championship, Nair took center stage and reflected on the opportunity and what it meant to him.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Northamptonshire and getting to play in the County Championship. You hear a lot about county cricket, and I know Prithvi [Shaw] really enjoyed his time with the team, so it’s exciting to have the opportunity to be involved too. Hopefully, I can make an impact on the team while I’m there, that’s the main thing for me. It’s about doing as much as I can to help the team get some wins in these last three games,” Karun Nair was quoted as saying by India Today.
He’s really keen to get going: John Sadler
Furthermore, Northamptonshire’s head coach, John Sadler, came forward to reflect on the move as well. Sadler opined that Nair was keen to get going with the squad, and his arrival would boost their squad even further.
“It’s great that we’ve been able to secure Karun to come over for the remainder of the season, he’s really keen to get going, he’s a high-class batter who’s scored something like 11,000 runs in his career and his first-class numbers are particularly special,” head coach John Sadler said.
