Kapil Dev opens up on India’s struggling form in T20 WC

India is scheduled to face Afghanistan for their upcoming fixture of the mega event. Ahead of the match, the former India captain Kapil Dev has reckoned that the BCCI needs to make decisions on the big names in the team. The Virat Kohli-led side has lost two straight games and is placed under major scrutiny for their dismaying performances.

After facing defeat in their opening game against Pakistan, the side wasn’t able to bring a shift in their fortunes in the next game as well. They faced a dismaying loss to New Zealand as the team’s batting lineup yet again experienced a collapse. Even if India wins all their remaining matches, they have slim chances of advancing to the semi-finals as their fate largely depends on the results of other matches of the group.

Kapil Dev highlighted these points and asserted that depending on other teams for qualification shouldn’t be the criteria. He also added that if the big players are unable to make an impact, BCCI must think of providing opportunities to the younger talents. According to him, the youngsters must get enough chances in order to make the coming generation better.

How do we make the next generation better, reckons Kapil Dev

If we succeed on the basis of some other teams, Indian cricket has never appreciated it. If you want to win the World Cup or reach the semi-finals, do it on your own strengths. It is better not to depend on other teams. I guess the selectors will have to decide the future of the big names and the big players.

“They need to think about whether the youngsters who are performing well in the IPL, is it time to give them a chance? How do we make the next generation better? If they lose, there is no harm because they will gain experience. But if these big players don’t perform now and play such bad cricket, there is going to be plenty of criticism. The BCCI needs to intervene and think about bringing more youngsters in,” Kapil Dev told ABP News.
