Justin Langer lavishes praises on Mitchell Starc
After suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat in the T20I series, Australia roared back in the ODI leg and defeated West Indies 2-1. It was indeed a phenomenal performance from the visiting team as many of their key players didn’t feature in the series. Even regular skipper Aaron Finch got ruled out due to a knee injury. However, the five-time World Cup champions defied the odds and thrashed the Caribbean side at the latter’s den.
While many players contributed to Australia’s triumph, Mitchell Starc was unarguably the stand-out performer. The left-arm pacer unleashed his A-game and delivered one scintillating spell after another. He, in total, scalped 11 wickets in three games which includes a stunning five-wicket haul. Starc also received the Player-of-the-series award for his stunning show
Many fans and experts were bowled over by Starc’s special performance and lavished praises on him. Australia head coach Justin Langer also lauded the veteran speedster. He, in fact, said the left-arm pacer is the best limited-overs bowler in the world.
Justin Langer heaps massive praises on Mitchell Starc
“I think Mitchell Starc is the best white-ball bowler in the world. He bowls up front, swings the ball. He is the best bowler at the death in the world. He is great to have in our team. The combination with him and Josh Hazlewood is a real plus for us,” Langer said ahead of Australia’s flight to Bangladesh.
Starc has been spearheading Australia’s bowling attack for a while and his numbers in international cricket are nothing but jaw-dropping. The speedster has scalped 598 wickets in Australian colours so far, including 21 five-wicket hauls. With the pacer being 31-year-old, a lot of cricket is left in him and it will be interesting to see how far he goes. He’ll definitely be critical to Australia’s success in the T20 World Cup later this year in UAE.
Meanwhile, the Australian cricket team’s next assignment is a five-match T20I series against Bangladesh, starting from August 3. With the T20 World Cup being months away and regular players not in the squad, it’s a great opportunity for other players to stake their claim in the squad for the global event.
