Justin Langer gives a fitting reply to Michael Vaughan’s caustic comment
While India battled the first wave of COVID-19 in the year 2020, the 13th edition of the IPL was staged in UAE. However, India kicked off their international assignments with a tour to Australia. Though India lost the ODI series, what happened in T20 and ultimately the Test series got scripted as one of the biggest historic moments. India kept struggling without its main players as the majority of them were injured and skipper Virat Kohli was on paternity leave and still displayed a magnificent show.
Talking about India’s biggest victory Down Under, former cricketers sat down to give their opinions. During an interaction show hosted by Mark Vaughan and Brendon Julian, Michael Vaughan and Justin Langer were asked about the incredible series that took place between two cricketing giants. Vaughan jokingly added there, ‘There’s no shame in losing to India’s 3rd XI’.
Listening to the comment by Vaughan, Australian coach Langer gave a fitting reply. He added that the team will be strong if it comes from a nation of one and a half billion and who crazily love cricket.
We were on the wrong side of the ledger: Justin Langer
“I know we all joke, Vaughany (Michael Vaughan) jokes about India’s second and third XI but the truth is, in a country of one and a half billion people, who love cricket, if you make the first XI, you’re going to have a pretty tough team.
“There will be pretty good players, and when the opportunity comes, you’ve got to be ready to grab them. We saw that exceptional young talent, they were fierce. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of the ledger,” added Langer while speaking on Fox Cricket.
Talking about Langer’s guidance, he held responsibilities for the Australian national team after their infamous ball-tampering incident. However, it is under his reign only where Australia have lost two back-to-back Border Gavaskar Trophy Down Under.
It was all the show of youngsters in India’s fight to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy when the majority of the senior players succumbed to injuries.
