Joe Root seems to be in the form of his life, rest of us need to step up: Jos Buttler
India is up against England in a five-match Test series that is taking place on English soil. While India is 1-0 up in the series, hosts will be trying to turn tables moving ahead. Talking about the form of the England team, skipper Joe Root has been impressing fans big time as he has already smashed two centuries in the series so far.
It was said earlier too that it is only Root who is shining from the batting setup of the home team and the rest of the batters need to pull up their socks. In the same line of events, wicketkeeping-batsman Jos Buttler added his opinions. Buttler stated that Root generally plays well but is currently in form of his life and that is why all England batsmen need to step up to provide him assistance.
“I think it is obvious that the rest of us need to step up and give Joe Root more support. This year, in particular, he always bats well, but he seems to be in the form of his life,” said Buttler as quoted by Hindustan Times.
We certainly do not want to create more pressure on Joe Root’s shoulders, reckons Buttler
“He has had an amazing start to the series and hopefully, that can continue and the rest of us can improve our game to give him more support. We certainly do not want to create more pressure on Joe’s shoulders. As a unit, we need to stand up to the level we can,” he added.
The wicketkeeper further talked about the team’s plans against Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah on the final day of the Lord’s Test. The pace duo of India displayed some unbelievable class to build a sturdy stand of 89 runs which pushed the visiting side to create pressure on the home team. Buttler’s remark came up ahead of Headingley Test which is all set to commence on August 25 (Wednesday).
As India currently stands 1-0 in the series, it will be a thing to see how the home will level up the series or guests will float victorious once again in Leeds.
