Jemimah Rodrigues creates history with fastest ton in Kia Super League
Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues was in stunning form in the Kia Super League, scoring 112 off only 58 deliveries. Her maiden ton in the T20 tournament guided the Yorkshire Diamonds to a last-ball victory over the Southern Vipers in York.
Batting first, the Vipers managed to post a big score of 184-4 in their quota of 20 overs. Suzie Bates (47 off 39) and Danielle Wyatt (42 off 20) were the stars of the show. The total was certainly a challenging one for the Yorkshire Diamonds to chase down.
In reply, the Diamonds lost the early wicket of Lauren Winfield for a duck. Jemimah Rodrigues then walked out to bat at No.3 and completely changed the momentum of the game. Attacking the bowlers from the first ball, she established a crucial 90-run stand with Holie Armitage. This gave the Diamonds the upper hand but quick breakthroughs by the Vipers left the contest hanging by a thread. Rodrigues scored her ton in only 51 deliveries, making it the fastest in the history of the league.
In the final over of the innings, the Diamonds required 10 runs. But Rodrigues showed great maturity and kept calm to level the scores in the penultimate ball of the game. Linsey Smith then scored a single off the final ball bowled by Suzie Bates to give the Diamonds a famous victory.
In her blistering knock, Rodrigues hit 17 fours and 1 six which truly marked her arrival in the T20 league played in England. This made Rodrigues the latest Indian to make a mark in a foreign T20 league with the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana already setting brilliant examples.
