Jaydev Unadkat signs with Sussex for County Championship
Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat is all set to compete in his first stint at the County Championship after signing with Sussex County Cricket Club. It is also worth noting that veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara signed with Sussex, and Unadkat will join up with his teammate soon.
With the agreement, Unadkat will be available for at least three of Sussex’s remaining four matches in the Championship. The left-arm pacer’s first game is expected to be Sussex’s clash against Durham on September 3. The one game he could miss would be if he returned to India to lead Saurashtra in the Irani Cup, which is scheduled to start on October 1.
Unadkat recently competed for India in their recently concluded multi-format series against the West Indies. Undakat featured for India in the two-match Test series but could not take any wickets. However, he did pick up a wicket in the one ODI that he played against the West Indies.
I have been following the team’s recent run of success: Unadkat
Furthermore, after the news of Unadkat’s appointment was made official, the 31-year-old came forward to heap praise on Sussex. He stated that he had been following Sussex recently, and after a conversation with head coach Paul Farbrace, Unadkat felt that he could make a significant contribution to the team’s success in the coming days.
“I have been following the team’s recent run of success, and I had a nice conversation with Paul [Farbrace, Sussex head coach], and it looks like I can definitely add value and contribute towards the team’s goals. The English County Championship has a wonderful legacy, and I was keen to grab the opportunity whenever I could, and it seems to be the right time for me at this point in my career,” Unadkat was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“I hope to add to the laurels that my dear friend and teammate, Cheteshwar, has been adding aplenty while representing Sussex for the last couple of seasons and, more importantly, helping the team win games,” he added.
