Jason Roy ruled out of the IPL, Daniel Sams named replacement

England’s T20I opener and Delhi Capitals batsman Jason Roy has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Pakistan and the IPL. He sustained a left side strain while preparing for the T20I series. Australian left-arm pacer Daniel Sams, who will be playing against England in the limited-overs tour, shall replace Roy for the IPL 2020 season.

According to a media release by the England Cricket Board, Roy sustained an injury in this week during the team’s preparation for the limited-overs series in Manchester. He had a scan later which revealed the damaging injury.

The ECB release confirmed Roy’s unavailability for the series. The opener will remain with the English squad and shall undergo rehabilitation. He will be attempting to get fully fit for England’s next limited-overs assignment which will be against Australia in September first week. However, he won’t be participating in the IPL.

The inclusion of Sams will strengthen DC’s bowling attack. The 27-year-old bowler represents Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League and was the highest wicket-taker of the 2019-20 edition. He is likely to make his international debut against England. Capitals already have plenty of openers in their squad and hence, are not likely to be affected by Roy’s absence.
