Jahanara Alam writes to BCB after CWG 2022 Qualifier snub
Bangladesh women’s fast bowler Jahanara Alam has written to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after being left out the national squad for the upcoming ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier 2022, starting January 18 in Malaysia. Earlier, it was learned that the 28-year-old Jahanara missed out on disciplinary grounds, having allegedly misbehaved with the team management.
The Khulna-born pacer, in the meantime, reached out to the BCB, alleging selector Manjurul Islam of bias and mismanagement. Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the BCB chief executive, put forth the development, saying that the board will delve deep into the matter.
BCB to investigate Jahanara Alam’s matter
“Yes, we have received a letter from her (Jahanara) and will look into it and we will take required steps after taking everything into consideration. When a cricketer of Jahanara’s stature tells us anything naturally it will be taken seriously and we will try to find out the truth about her observation,” Chowdhury was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
Jahanara is a veteran of 71 T20Is and recently took part in the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifiers two months back in Zimbabwe. She was the skipper in the 50-over competition where the Tigresses defeated USA and Pakistan while losing to Thailand.
“We have decided to exclude her as we wanted to give a message to everyone but this does not imply all is gone for her as she is very much in our World Cup plan,” a top BCB official told. Jahanara, however, has been kept in the standby along with wicketkeeper Nuzhat Tasnia and spinner Khadiza-Tul Kubra.
Nigar Sultana Joty is set to lead the team in the CWG Qualifiers after she replaced the very-experienced Salma Khatun. Bangladesh, Malaysia, Scotland, Sri Lanka and Kenya are the other five participating teams in the championship.
The winning team will join the seven teams in the Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place July-August at Birmingham.
