Isuru Udana’s hilarious response to fan asking why he’s conceding runs in the Powerplay
To increase the contest between bat and ball, legendary Australia spinner Shane Warne had recently suggested three major changes to T20 cricket. Since the inception of the high-octane format, the game is often labelled to go in favour of the batsmen.
Even in the on-going IPL 2020, bowlers are left hapless while batsmen are smoking boundaries for fun in the UAE. To make the game even, Warne had suggested increasing the boundary size. He further had also said–two bowlers should be allowed to bowl five overs instead of four in T20s and pitches to be similar like a fourth day Test match track.
Warne’s comment reflected the disparity between batsmen and bowlers. In the shorter format of the game, especially in the Powerplays and death overs, bowlers have no option but to get back to their mark after being tonked for sixes.
Isuru Udana’s expensive outings
Sri Lankan fast bowler Isuru Udana, currently plying his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore, was also targetted by a fan on Instagram. In his previous game against Delhi Capitals, Udana leaked 40 runs in his four overs along with scalping Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket.
Reacting to Udana’s bowling performance so far in the IPL, the fan wrote– “Why are you conceding runs in power play”.
Udana also had a fitting reply under his sleeve as he responded with a cheeky comment– “Because batsman comes with his bat”.
32-year-old Udana has played three games so far and he has conceded at least 40 runs in each match. However, he has been amongst the wicket-takers too. The Sri Lanka international has picked up five wickets in three outings so far. He was snapped up by RCB at his base price of INR 50 lakh in the IPL 2020 auction.
RCB, meanwhile, is sitting on the fifth spot in the points table. The Virat Kohli-led side started the tournament with a victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad before suffering a 97-run defeat against Kings XI Punjab. Overcoming the defeat, RCB registered wins over Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals before Delhi Capitals defeated them by 59 runs on Monday.
Vying for their maiden IPL title, the Bangalore side is next scheduled to face MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on October 10 at Dubai International Stadium.
