Ishan Kishan decodes his stunning catch against Sri Lanka at Wankhede
India’s wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan not only made the headlines for his valuable contribution with the bat but also took a stunning catch to dismiss Charith Asalanka in the first T20I of the series against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The incident happened in the 8th over of the Sri Lankan batting when the 25-year-old failed to connect a pull shot. His half-hearted attempt hit the top edge of the bat as the ball hung in the air for a considerable amount of time. Kishan, who was keeping an eye on the ball, ran from the wicket-keeper’s position to the third man’s position calling everyone to stay out of it.
Finally, he grabbed the ball as skipper Hardik Pandya was left awe-struck with thousands in the stadium celebrating the dismissal. While speaking about the same in the post-match presentation, the cricketer revealed the kind of practice sessions they have been a part of and how they have learned from the multiple errors they have committed during the Bangladesh series.
“I think we have seen when we were playing in Bangladesh, there were a few catches which we missed because of calling, lack of proper sound while calling. So I thought when I am going for a catch, I will go all-out, I would create confusion. So I called. Even when we were practicing, I was discussing with the coach that calling is very important. So we practiced this and we practiced high-catching with tennis rackets and soft balls. All the hard work paid off,” the stumper-batter said about his terrific catch.
That was a fabulous catch: T Dilip
India’s fielding coach T Dilip was very impressed with the catch as well. He appreciated Ishan Kishan and reminded that catching while running backwards is always a tough one. “Catching while running back is very difficult. We all know your speed is great. That was a fabulous catch,” he said.
