IPL: Most expensive uncapped players in IPL auction history

Over the years many players have made a fortune for themselves at the IPL auctions. It was England all-rounder Sam Curran who got the highest bid at the IPL 2023 auction when he was bought by the Punjab Kings for INR 18.5 crore. While the seasoned Indian and overseas players have made a tremendous impact at the IPL auctions, even the uncapped players have hogged the limelight where they have been bought by the franchises at exorbitant prices.

Without further ado, here’s a look at three of them:

3. Tim David (INR 8.25 crore)

Even though there have been a countless number of uncapped talents from India who have earned big bucks at the IPL auction over the years, there have also been few overseas players who made it big. Singapore-born Tim David, for instance, was offered a whopping INR 8.25 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction by Mumbai Indians. David was benched for most of the season and by the time he got his chances, it was too late as MI’s campaign had already ended. In eight games, he finished with 186 runs at an average of 37.2 and a strike rate of 216.28 with his highest score being 46.

2. Rahul Tewatia (INR 9 crore)

After hot and cold 2020 and 2021, the Rajasthan Royals decided to part ways with batting all-rounder Rahul Tewatia ahead of the 2022 season. However, there were many buyers for him at the two-day mega auction. There was an all-out bidding war as soon as his name popped up and it was the new entrants Gujarat Titans who acquired his services for INR 9 crore. GT’s investment bore fruits as Tewatia was not only a key member of their maiden title triumph but also emerged as a proven finisher as he went on to amass 217 runs from at a strike rate of 147.62 in 16 games

1. Avesh Khan (INR 10 crore)

Despite finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker of IPL 2021, emerging pacer Avesh Khan was released by the Delhi Capitals. However, the setback turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants showed faith in Avesh and offered him a staggering INR 10 crore in the 2022 mega auction. Khan bagged 18 scalps from 13 matches as LSG made the playoffs before going down to RCB in the Eliminator.
