IPL: Most 50+ scores by openers (Top 3)
The Indian Premier League is arguably the most competitive T20 league in the world. Several top cricketers have graced the T20 extravaganza with their stupendous performances time and again. IPL has seen the world’s best batters opening the innings for their respective teams and hammering the opposition time and again. In the 15-year-long history of the tournament, several openers have made a name for themselves with their consistent performances for their respective times. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three openers with the most fifty-plus scores playing in the top-order in the history of IPL:
KL Rahul (35)
Rahul is one of the most prolific batters in the past few seasons of IPL. The 31-year-old has been scoring over 590 runs consistently in every season since 2018. The opening batter was awarded the coveted Orange Cap for finishing as the highest run-getter in the 2020 season with 670 runs to his name. Rahul has 35 fifty-plus scores in his IPL career making him rank third on the list.
Shikhar Dhawan (47)
The Southpaw is one of the most consistent performers in the history of the competition. Dhawan has scored the most number of fours in the history of the league and has sent the ball to the ropes on 730 occasions. The 37-year-old veteran has been consistently scoring over 400 runs since the 2016 season. Dhawan has 47 fifty-plus scores to his name as an opener making him rank second on the list.
David Warner (57)
Warner is one of the greatest batters ever in the history of the IPL and is the fastest batter to breach the 5000 and 6000-run landmark. The southpaw has the most number of fifties in the history of the competition i.e 58, out of which 57 have come as an opener which makes him rank first in the list. Warner has also won the orange cap the most number of times in the tournament i.e thrice in the years 2015, 2017 and 2019 respectively.
