IPL: Five cricketers dismissed on zero for most times
T20 is the crash-bang version of cricket. With only 120 balls available for 11 batsmen to face, every ball and every run is important. In such cases, a certain disappointment is when the batsman returns to the pavilion without scoring a run. To ease the pain, a dismissal on zero is termed ‘duck.’ So here are the five batsmen who have recorded most ducks in the history of IPL.
5. Gautam Gambhir (12 ducks)
Gautam Gambhir is the first name that props up in our minds when IPL ducks are mentioned. The former Kolkata Knight Riders captain and opener created an unwanted record in the 2014 IPL. In the first three matches of the season, the left-hander returned to the pavilion without opening his account.
In all, Gambhir has played 152 innings in 154 IPL matches. Along with 4,217 runs, he has also recorded 12 ducks.
4. Parthiv Patel (12 ducks)
The diminutive wicket-keeper from Gujarat has represented six different franchises in the span of 125 career games. For most of these teams, he has opened the innings. In 123 knocks, Parthiv has been dismissed on zero for 12 times. The left-hander has 2,475 runs to his credit.
3. Manish Pandey (12 ducks)
The 29-year old has been playing in India’s premier T20 tournament since its inception. Pandey was instrumental in KKR winning the 2014 IPL. He has not been able to replicate his success consistently. The same is reflected in 12 ducks registered in his name. Otherwise, Pandey has accumulated 2,499 runs in 109 IPL innings.
2. Piyush Chawla (12 ducks)
The legspinner struck the winning boundary of the 2014 season and sealed Kolkata Knight Riders’ second silverware. Chawla ranks third in the all-time wicket-takers list of the IPL. He has been effective in cameos with the bat in the lower batting order. However, in 76 innings, the leggie has not disturbed the scorers on 12 occasions.
1. Harbhajan Singh (13 ducks)
India’s most successful off-spinner was proficient with the bat as his two Test centuries suggest. Harbhajan took care of the death overs batting for Mumbai Indians in his early years. His unique batting style confused bowlers, and he ended up blazing a few quick runs. Other times, he gifted his wicket away. Harbhajan leads the tally of ducks with 13 dismissals on zero in 87 innings. He has scored 828 runs in his IPL career.
