IPL: Fastest to 4000 runs
KL Rahul registered his first fifty to end a disappointing start to the season in the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) during Lucknow Super Giants’ latest game. The star batter scored 74 off 56 against Punjab Kings but it was not enough for his team to win the game. However, Rahul achieved a few milestones during this knock as he completed 4000 runs in IPL and 2000 runs as a captain.
IPL 2023 is for the record-chasers as MS Dhoni also completed 5000 runs while David Warner became the only third cricketer to complete 6000 runs and Rohit Sharma followed suit as he became the fourth to the milestone. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is in contention to become the first cricketer to record 7000 runs in tournament history. But three more players have been faster than Kohli in a number of innings to reach the 4000-run mark in IPL.
114 innings – David Warner
The veteran Australian is third on this list as he took just 114 innings to score 4000 runs in IPL. Warner is third among the leading run-getter in the tournament with 6109 runs from 167 innings at an average of 41.13 and a strike rate of 139.63 so far. He has been in sensational form in IPL 2023 with three fifties as he holds the record for most fifties in tournament history.
112 innings – Chris Gayle
The former West Indies big-hitter holds many big records in IPL, including the highest score and most sixes record. Gayle holds the record for fastest to 2000 and 3000 runs in IPL as he scored 4965 runs from just 141 innings. Gayle also held the record for the second-fastest to 4000 runs, having achieved it in just 112 innings.
105 innings – KL Rahul
Rahul broke Gayle’s record for fastest to 4000 runs in IPL tournaments as he smashed his 32nd fifty in the tournament on April 15. He took just 105 innings to achieve the milestone and also became the fastest Indian captain to score 2000 runs in IPL. Rahul has scored 4044 runs from 105 innings at an average of 47.02 and a strike rate of 135.16 with four centuries and 32 fifties so far.
