IPL: Fastest 50 for Rajasthan Royals
The Indian Premier League season 16 has got off to a terrific start as all the teams have played their respective first matches. The runners-up of 2022, Rajasthan Royals, have got their campaign off to a rollicking start as well as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by a massive margin of 72 runs. The first game for the Sanju Samson-led side was a great one as some records were sent for a toss by the formidable batting unit.
Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson scored their respective half-centuries as Rajasthan posted 203/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Buttler was the most destructive batter from the side who brought up his fifty in just 20 balls. However, it was not the fastest fifty scored for RR. As Rajasthan march on the IPL season 16, let’s take a look at the top three fastest fifties scored for Rajasthan Royals in the history of IPL:
3. Sanju Samson, 19 balls, vs CSK, 2020
During Match 4 of the 2020 season between RR and CSK, Sanju Samson ripped apart CSK bowling playing a scintillating knock of 74 off 32 balls smashing one four and nine sixes in his innings. He brought up his fifty in just 19 balls and helped Rajasthan post 216/7 in the first innings. In reply, CSK came mighty close to chasing down the target but eventually fell 16 runs short.
2. Owais Shah, 19 balls, vs RCB 2012
It was Match 18 season as Rajasthan opted to bat first against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Owais Shah walked in to bat with the score of 62/1 after 10.2 overs. The English batter added 121 runs for the second wicket along with Ajinkya Rahane, off just 50 balls. Shah reached his half-century in just 19 balls and finished his innings on 60 off 26 balls. Courtesy of his knock, RR posted a massive 195/2 in the first innings and won the match by a massive margin of 59 runs.
1. Jos Buttler, 18 balls vs DC 2018
During Match 32 of the 2018 season, RR had to chase down 151 against Delhi Capitals in just 12 overs in the rain-curtailed game. Buttler once again had the onus of getting his team off to a fiery start in the innings. He brought up his half-century off just 18 balls and went on to score 67 off 26 balls, smashing four fours and seven sixes in his innings. However, the knock did not prove to be enough for Rajasthan as they lost the game by a narrow margin of four runs.
