IPL: Best bowling figures by Indians
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen numerous scintillating bowling performances which has, on certain occasions, helped their respective teams obtain favourable results. Mumbai Indians’ Akash Madhwal was instrumental in his franchise’s win against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023 which eventually steered them to reach the Qualifier 2. On that note, we take a look at the top three best bowling figures by Indians in the top-tier league-
3. Ishant Sharma | 5/12
In 2011, during the match against Kochi Tuskers Kerala (now defunct), seasoned pacer Ishant Sharma recorded a magnificent spell donning the Deccan Chargers (also defunct) outfit. In his three overs, the pacer sliced through the batting unit with a five-wicket haul for just 12 runs at a stunning economy of 4.00. With this, the Chargers restricted the rival side to a meagre 74 runs in the low-scoring chase.
2. Jasprit Bumrah | 5/10
During the first innings against KKR, Jasprit Bumrah registered a five-for in his four overs at an impressive economy of 2.50 in the 2022 season. Though KKR concluded with 165 runs, MI lost the contest, courtesy of a spectacular bowling performance by the former. Despite ending on the losing side, Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Match for his majestic spell.
Likewise, seasoned pacer Mohit Sharma was at his destructive best with the ball for the Gujarat Titans during the Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians in the 2023 edition. The pacer ripped through the rival middle-order and claimed a five-wicket haul giving away mere 10 runs in his 2.2 overs, concluding with a marvellous economy of 4.28.

The RCB legendary spinner Anil Kumble returned the best bowling figures in the history of the IPL against Rajasthan Royals in 2009. Kumble spun a web around the rival batting unit and got five wickets for mere five runs at a sensational economy of 1.57 in his 3.1 overs.
Likewise, MI pacer Akash Madhwal recorded similar figures in 3.3 overs during the 16th edition of the lucrative T20 league. Madhwal’s lethal bowling exploits helped Mumbai cruise to the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2023 and helped knock LSG out of the race for the summit clash.
