IPL Auction 2023: 3 players who deserved better bucks
The just-concluded IPL 2023 mini-auction saw many Indian and overseas players making a fortune for themselves. Some of the uncapped players also attracted heavy bids at the mega event and were bought for a phenomenal amount of money. However, there were also some players who did not get paid their money’s worth despite having a good reputation. Without further ado, here’s a look at three of them.
3. Shakib Al Hasan (INR 1.5 Crore)
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and his national teammate Litton Das will be playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023. However, KKR managed a steal buy as they roped in the southpaw for only a sum of INR 1.5 crore. Shakib has played for Bangladesh in all the editions of the T20 World Cup so far and is one of the most accomplished all-rounders in the shortest format of the game. In fact, the veteran is the second-highest all-time wicket-taker in T20Is, having registered 128 scalps to his name from 109 games.
2. Kane Williamson (INR 2 Crore)
Kane Williamson showcased valiant batting performances in the T20 World Cup semis against Pakistan in a losing cause. Williamson, who had led the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last edition, was released by the 2016 winners due to underwhelming performances with the bat as well as captaincy tactics. The New Zealand skipper’s name was the first one to pop up during the IPL 2023 mini-auction and the reigning champions Gujarat Titans finalized the deal for an amount of INR 2 crore.
1. Rilee Rossouw (INR 4.6 Crore)
Even though Delhi Capitals welcomed Rilee Rossouw on board for a whopping INR 4.6 crore, it is way less when compared to the high standards the southpaw has set for himself in T20Is in the last few months. Rossouw has registered two overseas T20I centuries – the first one came on Indian soil, while the second one came down under against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2022. Moreover, the Proteas middle-order sensation has an outstanding strike rate of 172.37 this year.
