IPL 2023: Lucknow Super Giants to don special edition kit against Kolkata Knight Riders

Despite injury concerns and the absence of important players this season, the Lucknow Super Giants have been doing well. They have a great opportunity to qualify because they are now placed third in the IPL 2023 points standings and have their last league match against two time IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders.

In what is a must win game against KKR at the famous Eden Gardens on Saturday, May 20, the Krunal Pandya-led team will be donning a jersey that is inspired by the legendary Indian football club Mohun Bagan, as a tribute to the football giant.

LSG have a situation of must-win ahead of them if they want to finish at the top spot, so that they can play Qualifier 1 which will eventually make their chances of playing the finals and winning the trophy a little bit stronger. As LSG play against KKR in match number 68 of the IPL 2023 they will be expected to come out all guns blazing and would look to improve their run rate in case they are tied on the points table with the Chennai Super Kings.

The color of the jersey for Mohun Bagan is maroon and green, and LSG will wear the hues. Since it is one of the few clubs in the nation with such a sizable fan base, the club has long served as the center of the community. In a tweet sent out by the LSG’s official Twitter handle, they revealed that the players will be donning the special kit as they captioned it, “ Lucknow’s #GazabAndaz, now in Kolkata’s colors. Our tribute to Mohun Bagan and the City of Joy”.

It is also to be noted that one more interesting connection between LSG and KKR is LSG’s mentor Gautam Gambhir who also captained Kolkata Knight Riders and helped them win the title twice in his regime. Gambhir was appointed the mentor of the LSG in the inaugural season of the team in the year 2022. KKR are currently placed seventh on the points tables with 12 points while LSG are placed third with 15 points in their kitty.
