IPL 2023: Jofra Archer ruled out, Chris Jordan named replacement
The fears of Mumbai Indians fans have come true. English pacer Jofra Archer has been officially ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. His compatriot fast bowler Chris Jordan shall take his place in the Mumbai Indians setup. The franchise confirmed the development today.
Jofra Archer represented Mumbai in five matches this season. The formidable fast bowler did not deliver as expected as he managed to take only two wickets in these games. He failed to demonstrate any sort of control with the ball as his economy rate of 9.5 suggests. MI confirmed that Archer will return to England to continue his rehabilitation. His recovery and fitness will be monitored by ECB.
Chris Jordan, Archer’s teammate from Sussex and also a Barbados-born, has prior IPL experience. He has featured 28 matches over six different seasons. Jordan has also struggled to keep runs under the lid with his economy rate hovering around 9. However, it will be a fresh start for the pacer as he joins the Blue and Gold outfit.
Mumbai Indians are currently placed 8th in the points table with 5 wins and 5 losses from their 10 games. They face Royal Challengers Bangalore today in a crunch game. The 54th IPL match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
