IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals – SWOT Analysis

Delhi Capitals’ camp was hit by catastrophe after skipper Rishabh Pant sustained long-term injuries during his horrific car crash at the fag end of 2022. In the absence of the explosive wicketkeeper-batter, veteran Aussie opener David Warner will lead the charge for the Delhi-based franchise, who failed to make it to the playoffs last year.

Strengths

Although Rishabh Pant’s absence will be felt by the Delhi-based franchise in the upcoming edition of the tournament, they have made some brilliant signings in the auction to strengthen their batting. While the arrival of Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw gives them a big boost at the top of the order, Manish Pandey’s presence in the middle order is a big boost for the Delhi Capitals.

Weakness

Delhi Capitals’ pace attack led by South African speedster Anrich Nortje often failed to deliver in the big game last season. The absence of Nortje and fellow pacer Lungi Ngidi in the initial part of the tournament does not help their cause either. While Axar Patel has improved drastically in the batting department, the team would love more contributions from him with the ball.

Opportunities

The Delhi-based outfit made a smart signing after roping in young pacer Mukesh Kumar in the auction ahead of IPL 2023. The 29-year-old fast bowler is an exciting talent and will be looking to impress in the upcoming edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, Australian all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh has been in scintillating form ever since his return from injury and will be looking to make his mark in IPL 2023.

Threat

Delhi Capitals’ biggest issue in the last few years revolves around their leadership roles in the team. The recuperating Rishabh Pant came under scrutiny for his captaincy decisions and the Delhi-based side will be taking the field under a third different captain in the last three seasons. It will be interesting to see how Ricky Ponting’s side copes under veteran Aussie David Warner, who guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden title in 2016.
