IPL 2023 Auction Review: Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad went into the auction with the aim to get a leader for their side. Notably, having released Kane Williamson ahead of the auction. They went big in the very first round and roped in two big names, which solved a major purpose. At the end of the auction, they now have a couple of captaincy options.
They entered a bidding war with Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore to sign England’s Harry Brook. The power-hitter has been in good touch of late and all three teams looked stern on getting the Englishman. SRH, eventually won the bidding war and roped him in for a whopping INR 13.25 crore.
Before entering the auction, SRH had the biggest purse (INR 42.25 crore). After spending a chunk of the money on Brook, SRH targeted Mayank Agarwal.
Agarwal, who led Punjab Kings in 2022 edition, was released by the franchise ahead of the auction. Though his outing as a captain did not go too well, he surely holds good experience of leading a team. SRH left behind the other three franchises in the bidding war and signed Agarwal for INR 8.25 crore.
In just the very first round of the auction, SRH successfully claimed two big players and strengthened their squad. While the veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a captaincy option, the Orange Army now has the experienced Agarwal. SRH remained silent for a while after getting the two players but bounced back into the game to get Heinrich Klaasen for INR 5.25 crore.
They also roped in Adil Rashid and Mayank Markande for INR 2 crore and INR 50 lakh respectively. From the list of uncapped players, they went for Vivrant Sharma (INR 2.6 crore), Mayank Dagar (INR 1.8 crore), Samarth Vyas (INR 20 lakh), Sanvir Singh (INR 20 lakh), Nitish Kumar Reddy (INR 20 lakh), and Upendra Singh Yadav (INR 25 lakh).
They spent their money wisely by signing Akeal Hosein and Anmolpreet Singh for 1 crore and 20 lakh respectively. Overall, SRH had a good auction and added 13 players to their squad. It remains to be seen which player gets the opportunity to don the captaincy hat and lead the Orange Army.
