IPL 2022: Stephen Fleming expects Moeen Ali to recover in a week
Chennai Super Kings’ star all-rounder Moeen Ali is set to be out of action for around one week owing to his ankle injury. CSK’s injury woes seem to be never-ending with Moeen’s name getting added to the list of injured players, but head coach Stephen Fleming has informed that he will make his return to the side in a week’s time. Deepak Chahar and Adam Milne have already been ruled out of the IPL 2022 owing to their respective injuries.
The English player was dropped from the team during CSK’s clash against Mumbai Indians, and then suffered the injury during the practice session in the nets and as a result, wasn’t available for the fixture against Punjab Kings on Monday.
“He rolled his ankle, X-rays revealed there was no fracture but there is always a recovery period of maybe seven days. We are hopeful the recovery will be quick given that there is no fracture,” Fleming said at the post-match press conference on Monday.
Moeen Ali has played five games for CSK so far this season and has managed to score only 87 runs at an average of 17.40 and a strike rate of 124.29. The senior pro was a part of the winning squad last year when CSK lifted their fourth IPL trophy, but he has been struggling to score big with the bat this year.
Ambati Rayudu injured his wrist on Monday evening
CSK’s star-studded batter Ambati Rayudu injured his wrist on Monday while fielding against PBKS. Though he showcased a brilliant piece of fielding, he had to walk off as he couldn’t bear the pain. He returned to the field during the chase and scored a magnificent 78 (39) to keep CSK’s hopes alive in the game, but his knock went in vain as CSK lost the game by 11 runs.
Speaking of his injury, Fleming said: “The first check was around the break and his hand was bruising. It was just a case of icing that and getting that down and I think a little padding around the glove. It was the same hand that was broken sometime back, so it’s still pretty tender and a knock like that can obviously cause some damage.”
