IPL 2022: SRH vs GT Review – Hyderabad hand Gujarat their first defeat

Gujarat Titans suffered their first defeat of the season as they failed to defend 163 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 21 of IPL 2022. The Kane Williamson-led side chased down the target with five balls to spare and eight wickets in hand, thanks to an excellent opening partnership alongside some lusty hits from Nicholas Pooran towards the end.

Gujarat, meanwhile, would have ideally liked to have got to a total above 180 after cruising at one stage but wickets towards the end of their inning put a hold on the scoring rate. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natrajan were quite exceptional in the death overs for SRH and did not allow for a final flourish from the Hardik Pandya-led side.

Top Performers of the game

Kane Williamson

Williamson anchored the run chase for the Sunrisers Hyderabad with a well-made 46-ball 57, which was the top score for his side. The New Zealand batter played a captain’s innings by taking his time at the start and then capitalising in the end. He struck two fours and four sixes in his knock.

Hardik Pandya

Though Hardik finished on the losing side, the all-rounder scored a crucial unbeaten half-century while setting up the total for Gujarat Titans. He scored four fours and a six in his handy knock and played the anchor role once the wickets started to fell around him. He also picked up 1 for 27 in his four-over over spell with the important wicket of Kane Williamson.

What next for the two teams

Gujarat Titans will next play the Rajasthan Royals on 14th of April at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai while the Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on 15th of April at the Brabourne Stadium.
