IPL 2022: SRH rope in Sushant Mishra as replacement for Saurabh Dubey
Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed Sushant Mishra as a replacement for Saurabh Dubey, who has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2022 owing to a back injury. The medium-pacer Dubey was brought at his base price of INR 20 lakh at the mega auction in February, however, he did not feature in any of the Sunrisers’ nine matches this season.
Mishra, the 21-year-old pacer who hails from Jharkhand, has been roped in by the franchise for INR 20 lakh after he went unsold in the auction. The left-armer has 13 wickets at an economy rate of 4.07 in four first-class matches. He has previously been associated with the IPL, having served as a net bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore for two years.
This is not the first injury concern for the Hyderabad-based franchise as Washington Sundar has had a bumpy ride this season. He sat out for three consecutive matches with a split webbing in his bowling hand, an injury he picked against the Gujarat Titans. Sundar returned to action in the return fixture two weeks later only to cop another blow on the same hand in the next game against the Chennai Super Kings.
“It’s very unfortunate that he had a knock on the same hand were he split his webbing. It had healed completely but he re-injured that area, it’s not injured to the point that he needs it re-stitched,” SRH coach Tom Moody told press of Sundar’s repeat injury. “But unfortunately, it wasn’t in a state were he could bowl. It really did have an impact on for us in that early phase of bowling, given he has such a critical bowler for us.”
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently at the fourth spot in the tally, with five wins and four losses. They made a rocky start, losing two on the bounce before making a remarkable turnaround with five straight wins. Although, following that prolific run came another two losses in a row. They will eye to arrest that slide when they face Delhi Capitals on May 5 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.
