IPL 2022 promo featuring MS Dhoni to be withdrawn for glorifying violation of traffic rules

Former India and CSK Captain MS Dhoni’s IPL promo featuring him as a bus conductor has been red-carded and will be withdrawn after a complaint received by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). The concerned authority had sought modification/withdrawal of the IPL promo after a Road Safety Organisation had lodged a complaint mentioning a breach of the traffic rules.

The complaint, filed by Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS), was upheld and the decision to take the advertisement down was taken. In the mentioned promo, MS Dhoni portrays a bus driver, where he stops the bus in the middle of the road. It is seen in the video that a policeman asks the reason behind the sudden stoppage, and Dhoni says that he and the passengers are watching the ‘Super Over’ of a match.

The video was created as a promotional activity for the ongoing IPL 2022 and was run before the tournament started
The policeman considers this as a usual phenomenon and drives past the bus. The ASCI, after a thorough investigation, came to the conclusion that the video shall be either modified or withdrawn by the concerned party at the IPL, who, in return, have accepted in writing that they’ll take the video down before April 20, as reported by The Times of India.

Talking about the tournament, 14 matches have already been played in the league stage, with Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings attaining the top 4 spots currently. KKR is leading the charts with six points to their name, with one loss and three wins in the four matches played.

All the other three sides are tied at four points as only the Gujarat Titans remain unbeaten in the tournament so far. The hot favourites of the IPL- Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are yet to open their account as they’ve suffered a defeat in all the three games played so far. The last game of the league stage will be played on May 22 followed by the playoffs.
