IPL 2022: Prithvi Shaw set to rejoin Delhi Capitals after recovering from illness
Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw is likely to be available for the next game of his side after recovering from typhoid which required hospitalisation and kept him away from the squad as well. The right-hander had an excellent start to the season with 259 runs in nine games but had to miss out on the last three fixtures due to his illness and the Delhi Capitals camp will be delighted to hear the news.
Shaw has been one of the most destructive openers going around in the IPL at the moment and he can create havoc at the top of the order, especially in the powerplay. He has improved his game massively since partnering with David Warner this year, and the pair has been constantly putting up substantial opening partnerships as well.
‘“When they play their next game against the Punjab Kings on Monday evening, Shaw is very likely to be available,” a TOI source was quoted as saying.
The 22-year-old has a strike rate of 148.4 in his IPL career so far, but hasn’t found himself in the mix for the Indian limited-overs squad on a regular basis despite his explosive stroke play. Shaw has had vulnerabilities in the past, especially against the moving ball and was dropped from the Indian Test team as well on account of his technique. However, he came back strong in the last IPL season after a phenomenal display in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 and since then his transformation has been quite impressive.
Delhi Capitals struggling for opening partnerships since Shaw’s absence
Delhi Capitals have been struggling to find the opening partner for David Warner in absence of Shaw as the likes of Srikar Bharat and Mandeep Singh have all struggled to make an impact. The return of Shaw will certainly bolster the side massively as they still have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs if they can win their remaining two games against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians.
Delhi Capitals are currently at the fifth position in the points table with six wins in 12 games and they have bettered their net run rate as well. However, with a lot of teams fighting for the fourth spot, it won’t be easy for the Delhi Capitals to progress.
