IPL 2022: Prithvi Shaw fined 25 per cent of his match fees
Delhi Capitals lost to Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday (May 1) in a thrilling encounter. They couldn’t chase down 196 runs and eventually lost the game by six runs. While the loss was stinging for the Capitals as it was a crucial game for them, their opener Prithvi Shaw was also fined for not adhering to the IPL code of conduct. He also admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee Prakash Bhatt.
“Prithvi Shaw from Delhi Capitals has been reprimanded and fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
“Mr Shaw admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement from IPL read.
Prithvi Shaw having a decent IPL 2022
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw is having a decent IPL season while opening the innings for the Capitals. He has so far mustered 259 runs in nine innings at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of 159.87. Shaw has managed to provide Delhi quick-fire starts on multiple occasions this season but consistency has continued to be the issue for the youngster. He and David Warner have been decent though at the top of the order for the Delhi side that is struggling this season.
Delhi Capitals too have struggled for consistency in IPL 2022. They have played nine matches so far and have won only four matches while losing the other five. The team is currently sitting at the sixth position in the points table and will have to pull up their socks if they are to make it to the playoffs. For that to happen though DC will have to string consecutive wins which they haven’t done yet this season.
