IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants – SWOT Analysis

KL Rahul

Lucknow Super Giants had an excellent IPL 2022 mega auction and they had one of the better playing XIs at the end of the auction. Having drafted the likes of KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi, the Lucknow Super Giants ensured that they covered a lot of bases including the strong Indian core. They have roped in Gautam Gambhir as the mentor for the upcoming season and his experience will be very handy for the side. Here’s a SWOT analysis of Lucknow Super Giants:

Strengths

The Lucknow Super Giants have a heavy top order with the inclusion of Quinton de Kock who will partner Rahul. Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, and Krunal Pandya have all been involved in the cash-rich tournament for a long time now and they add up to the strong Indian contingent. Stoinis and Jason Holder will do the finishing duties and it is certainly one of the better batting line-ups.

Weaknesses

The Lucknow Super Giants do not have much weakness in their side and have ensured that they get their first playing XI really strong. However, their pace bowling department looks a little inexperienced with Mark Wood and Dushmantha Chameera not having played a lot of IPL games. The Indian backup options do not excite a lot as well which will be a concern if an injury pops up.

Opportunities

The Lucknow Super Giants are likely to stick with Manish Pandey at number three and it will do a world of good to the confidence of the Karnataka lad. He has been dropped from the Indian limited-overs side and was in and out of the playing XI for Sunrisers Hyderabad last year. Youngsters Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan will get an extended run and a good season here might solidify their place in the Indian side.

Threats

Krishnappa Gowtham hasn’t had the best of times in the recent games and he will have a big role in fill in as the off-spin all-rounder. Rahul’s captaincy in IPL has been far from impressive and he has not had a good start to his international leadership role as well. Hooda had an off-season last time for Punjab Kings and he will have to be consistent this year.
