IPL 2022: LSG vs RR Review – Rajasthan leapfrog to 2nd spot
Rajasthan Royals registered their eighth victory of the season against Lucknow Super Giants and are one step closer to qualifying for the playoffs. The KL Rahul-led side chasing a big total did not get off to the start they would have liked and Deepak Hooda (59) was the only one to get going with a magnificent century. However, Lucknow fell short by 24 runs, in the end, to drop down one place to third in the points table.
Earlier in the day, the Rajasthan Royals opted to bat first after winning the toss and they did lose Jos Buttler early. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal (41) and Sanju Samson (32) stitched an excellent partnership for the second wicket while Padikkal hammered a few boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking. In the end, the Royals posted a score of 178 on the back of a good finish from Boult and Ashwin.
Top Performers of the game
Trent Boult
Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for the Rajasthan Royals as the left-arm seamer picked up the early wicket of in-form batter Quinton de Kock and then Ayush Badoni. He bowled some outstanding yorkers at the back end of the innings and finished with 2 for 18 in his economical four-over spell.
Devdutt Padikkal
Devdutt Padikkal’s quickfire knock was one of the reasons behind Rajasthan Royals posting a competitive total on the board. The left-hander hit five fours and two sixes in his 18-ball 39 at a stunning strike rate of 216.67, and was quite impressive as well despite not playing in his usual opening position.
What next for the two teams
Lucknow Super Giants will play the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next game at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on the 18th of May while the Rajasthan Royals will be up against the Chennai Super Kings at the Brabourne Stadium on the 20th of May.
