IPL 2022: LSG skipper KL Rahul fined INR 24 lakh for second slow over-rate offence this season
Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has been found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the clash against Mumbai Indians on Sunday (April 24). As this was Rahul’s second offence of the season, he has been fined a sum of INR 24 lakh. At the same time, the other members of the LSG playing XI have been fined INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lower.
It must be noted that Rahul will be handed a one-match ban if he commits another slow over-rate offence this season. In that case, he’ll also be fined INR 30 lakh. Besides Rahul, MI skipper Rohit Sharma is the only other captain to have committed this offence twice. Hence, the duo has a serious need to keep an eye on the clock in their upcoming assignments.
One more slow overrate offence will earn KL Rahul a ban
“The Lucknow Super Giants have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 24,” a statement read released by the IPL.
“This was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences. Lucknow Super Giants captain, KL Rahul was fined Rs 24 lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lower,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, LSG would be pretty pleased with the outcome of the contest as they thrashed the five-time champions by 36 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Skipper Rahul slammed his second ton of the season, helping his side post 168/6 in their allotted 20 overs while batting first. In reply, the Men in Blue and Gold never really looked in the hunt and were restricted for 132/8. As this was MI’s eighth defeat on the trot, they are all but out of the playoff race.
