IPL 2022: KKR vs MI Review – Cummins’ onslaught stuns Mumbai
Mumbai Indians succumbed to their third loss of the season and it was purely an assault from Pat Cummins which turned the game on Kolkata Knight Riders’ favour. With five wickets gone for 101 in the 14th over, the game was poised but Cummins and Venkatesh Iyer stitched a brutal partnership together and it was the Australian who did the most of the damage.
Earlier in the game, Mumbai was put in to bat first by Shreyas Iyer and early wickets had hampered the scoring rate massively for the Rohit Sharma-led side. However, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav got the innings going with a crucial partnership and a final flourish from Kieron Pollard saw Mumbai go past the 160-run mark. However, it was not enough in the end as Cummins had other plans and finished the game with 4 overs in hand.
Top Performers of the game
Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins played a blinder of an innings to get the job done for the Kolkata Knight Riders and he remained unbeaten on 56 off just 15 deliveries with six sixes and four fours. The all-rounder got to his half-century in just 14 balls to equal the record for the fastest fifty by KL Rahul in the history of IPL and took everyone by surprise completely.
Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer did not play his most fluent innings out in the middle but certainly worked his way through after struggling at the start and finished unbeaten on 50 off 41 deliveries. The left-hander hit six fours and a six to keep his side in the hunt and he is expected to get much-needed confidence after seeing his side through at the end.
What next for the two teams
Mumbai Indians will next play the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MCA Stadium in Pune on the 9th of April while the Kolkata Knight Riders will next be up against the Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium on the 10th of April.
