IPL 2022: Guyanese spinner Ashmead Nedd to join RCB as net bowler
Ashmead Nedd might have been one of the unfamiliar names among the cricket fans in India, but certainly, he will now get a big lookup after arriving at the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp as a net bowler for the remaining IPL 2022 season. It has been learned that Nedd’s compatriot Sherfane Rutherford had played a big part in bringing the left-arm spinner from Guyana into the RCB squad as a net bowler, and this will be a huge opportunity for the youngster to get noticed.
Nedd was part of the 2018 U19 World Cup squad for West Indies and since then, he has gone on to play seven games in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) picking up three wickets at an impressive economy rate of 5.64. The 21-year-old made his List A debut in 2019 and has taken 17 wickets in 12 games at an economy rate of 3.50. Several bowlers who made it to an IPL team as net bowlers in past had impressed and were subsequently picked up in the squad as well.

Nedd mentioned that working with RCB which includes professionals like Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell will certainly help his growth as a spinner, and he desired to ask them about the routines they would undergo as a professional. He added that he is keen to learn about how he can take his game forward as a youngster to excel at the highest levels. Nedd is expected to leave by Tuesday (12th of April) for India.
“Going there as a spinner could really help me with my game. I want to ask simple stuff about their routine as a professional and how I can better my game as a youngster moving forward,” Ashmead Nedd told while speaking to News Room Sport.
