IPL 2022: GT vs LSG Preview – New entrants seek a winning start
The new entrants Gujarat Titans will kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against the other newcomers Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 28. Both teams would be hoping to start their respective campaigns with a win under their belt. While Lucknow will be led by India’s limited-overs vice-captain KL Rahul, Gujarat will be captained by star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Meanwhile, a few members of both teams will be missing the initial matches or the opening fixture of IPL 2022 due to their respective national commitments.
Since both teams are making their maiden appearance in the marquee tournament, it would only be possible to reveal who has the upper hand after their first face-off on March 28. Meanwhile, LSG and GT look promising on paper, having made some smart buys. Lucknow have included the likes of Quinton de Kock, Krunal Pandya, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, etc. to bolster their batting while their bowling attack comprises of Avesh Khan, Dushmantha Chameera, and Andrew Tye. Windies all-rounder Jason Holder is a handy all-rounder.
The Gujarat Titans’ class of 22 consists of a balanced side. They have roped in the promising Shubman Gill, power-hitter Rahul Tewatia, South African middle-order sensation David Miller, Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade to strengthen their batting while their lethal bowling attack is second to none with the likes of star leggie Rashid Khan, the experienced Pradeep Sangwan, West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph, New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson, etc.
Expected Playing XI for Gujarat Titans vs Lucknow Super Giants, Match 4
Gujarat Titans
Both teams suffered an early setback heading into the 15th edition of the marquee tournament with two overseas players pulling out due to various reasons. England’s explosive opener Jason Roy backed out in order to spend some quality time with his family and GT roped in the young Afghan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz as his replacement.
Lucknow Super Giants
English pacer Mark Wood sustained an elbow injury during the first Test against the West Indies earlier this month which ended up ruling him out of IPL 2022. Nevertheless, the Uttar Pradesh franchise roped in Australia’s death overs and yorker specialist Tye as his replacement but he won’t be available for the first game. Lucknow will also miss Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder for the first few games.
