IPL 2022: Five unsold overseas players who might come in as replacements

The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin in less than two weeks. In the IPL mega auction that was held in February this year, there were many players who went unsold. However, if there is an injury to any player or if any player decides to pull out of the tournament due to bio bubble fatigue or any personal reasons, these unsold players will still have a chance to come in as replacements. In this article, let us take a look at five such cricketers.

5.Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn is an explosive batter who can take apart any bowling attack on his day. The right-hander has played 42 matches in the IPL, and has scored 1329 runs. But then, what makes him a dangerous player is the fact that he has scored his runs at a strike rate of over 140. Lynn can be a handy replacement option as he can blaze his way at the top of the order if he gets his eye in.

4.Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan boasts of stellar numbers in T20I cricket. The left-hander is the 5th highest run-scorer for England in T20I cricket and has plundered 1239 runs at a superb average of 41.30. Malan can also strike lusty blows when the situation demands him to do so as well. Teams can surely look in the direction of Malan when they need an overseas replacement.

3.Steve Smith

Smith

Aussie batting legend Steve Smith might be another handy overseas replacement option. Smith has scored close to 2500 runs in his IPL career and brings with him an experience of 103 IPL matches. Smith also scores runs at a decent pace, and his strike rate of 128.09 stands testimony to the same. The right-hander can also dabble between caution and aggression.

2.Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi is the 3rd highest wicket-taker for the South African side in T20I cricket. The left-arm spinner has taken 57 wickets in his career and has taken them at a strike rate of under 20, which proves that he is a bowler who can scalp wickets at regular intervals. He can also stem the flow of runs in the middle overs and will be a good option for the IPL franchises to consider.

1.Martin Guptill

Martin Guptill can decimate any bowling attack once he gets going. The New Zealand batter is currently the 2nd highest run-scorer in T20I cricket and has plundered 3299 runs in his career at a  tremendous strike rate of 136.71. He is a batter who can strike the ball a long way and should surely be a handy replacement option.
