IPL 2022: CSK vs MI Preview – Chennai seek survival against their fiercest rivals
The Chennai Super Kings will be locking horns with arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in Match 59 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 12. While Chennai would be oozing with confidence after a mammoth 91-run win over Delhi Capitals last weekend, Mumbai went down to Kolkata Knight Riders by 52 runs after suffering an awkward batting collapse.
Meanwhile, the defending champions would be hoping to do the double over the Mumbai Indians, having got the better of them by three wickets in a last-ball thriller courtesy of a special knock from finisher MS Dhoni.
Chennai were spot on right from the word ‘go’ against the Delhi Capitals where both batters and bowlers stood out. Apart from Devon Conway, who scored a third consecutive half-century, his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed with a supporting 41. The duo’s show was backed by Shivam Dube’s cameo and finishing touches from captain Dhoni (7-ball 21*), which propelled them to a total in excess of 200. The bowlers then did the job and successfully restricted the Capitals to 117 as Moeen Ali roared back to form with figures of 3/13.
Mumbai, on the other hand, got everything right with the ball in the first innings and restricted Kolkata to a manageable total of 165/9 courtesy of an outstanding fifer from pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah (5/10). However, the MI batters let him down as they could not offer any resistance, barring Ishan Kishan who was the side’s sole half-centurion. Thus, the five-time champions eventually suffered their ninth loss of the season.
